The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has
opened an investigation into the workplace accident that resulted in the death
of a Lebanon County businessman Monday.
Spokeswoman Leni Fortson said OSHA opened the
investigation Monday into the accident, which killed Nathan Halteman, 52, the
owner of Halteman Construction in Bethel Township.
He was working at the time on an excavation job at
Triple-M-Farms in South Lebanon

The farm had hired Halteman as a contractor to dig a
trench that would lead to the construction of a silo. Halteman ended up in the
25-foot trench, covered past his waist in dirt and earth when rescue crews
arrived at the scene before 10 a.m. Monday.
Rescue crews removed him from the ditch, but Halteman
died later that afternoon at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Derry
Township.
Forston said the investigation involves Halteman
Construction and not Triple-M-Farms.
Fortson said by law, OSHA has 60 days to complete the
investigation from the time it begins. She said because the investigation is
open, she cannot comment further.
“We’re looking into what happened and why,” she said.
