Aramark has yet to finalize its location, but the
long-time Philadelphia-based company eased fears of city officials and hundreds
of employees Thursday when it announced its global headquarters will remain in
Philly.
"I want to thank each market that participated in
what was a very strong competition as we carefully explored all our options.
Ultimately, Aramark's longstanding home continues to be the ideal choice for us
and we are excited to re-commit to the city, state and people that have been
such an instrumental part of our growing company and will be in the
future," said Eric J. Foss, president and CEO, in a statement.
The Philadelphia Business Journal exclusively reported
last month the multinational food services company was exploring options for
relocation. It currently occupies 350,000 square feet at 1101 Market St., where
a sign bearing the Aramark name is located at the top of tower.
Although the company has not said if it will remain it
its current space, or shift to a different building within the city, Mayor Jim
Kenney exclusively told the Business Journal 2400 Market St. was being
considered.
"The Aramark logo on our skyline has been there
since I was born," he said last month, "we really want to see it stay
there.”
Kenney on Thursday released a statement regarding
Aramark's decision to stay in Philadelphia.
"The company provides about 6,500 jobs in the city,
and we’re glad to know that in considering the many elements of a potential relocation,
including a healthy business environment, access to talent, costs, diversity,
transportation, quality of life and others, the city of Philadelphia remains
the best option," Kenney said.
