Vacant Bala Cynwyd property to become Jewish family center

Plans to turn an abandoned Bala Cynwyd property into a Jewish family center inched forward Thursday when Lower Merion officials granted approval of several conditions for the new development, according to Main Line Media News.

Located at Montgomery and Parsons avenues, the property will become the approximately 18,000-square-foot Jewish Family and Children's Services Center.

The site consists of two lots that will be consolidated into one. On one of the two sites, there is now an old garage that is currently zoned residential. The township’s Zoning and Hearing Board has already granted a variance to allow a parking lot on the site of the garage.

As part of the approval conditions, township officials say the work should improve the walkability of the area.

There is also a plan to add a painted crosswalk at Parsons Avenue, Main Line Media News reports, although neighbors are concerned about the Jewish family center's impact on traffic congestion and parking,
