What could end up being an estimated $100 million
redevelopment project on South State Street in Newtown, Pa., has finally broken
ground.
The first phase of Steeple View is underway and involves
constructing a three-story building that will have 13,000 square feet of retail
space and 10 condominiums. Banana Republic and Francesca’s will occupy the
retail space. It is expected to be completed next December.
At build out, Steeple View will eventually occupy land
along State Street beginning at Centre Avenue and stretching to Newtown Creek.

The developer, Allan H. Smith, first presented his plans
for Steeple View in 2009 and the borough approved the first phase of the
project in 2013. The first phase is being constructed on a former car dealer
lot at State and Penn streets.
The second phase, which is still going through the local
approval process, will be constructed on nine acres along State Street that
runs from Centre Avenue to the former dealership site.
The overall project involves constructing a dozen
buildings that will have retail, restaurants, office and residential uses as
well as a town square and 500-vehicle parking garage.
The project, once completed, will be one of the largest
redevelopments in the heart of the Bucks County community.
