Vets housing project set to go
EAST VINCENT As Chester County and the rest of the
country work to end veteran homelessness, a developer is to break ground next
week on a long-awaited apartment complex for veterans in the county.
The project in East Vincent Township received $1.04
million in tax credits in May from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency
after two years of rejection.
Mission First Housing Group, the Philadelphia-based
developer of the project, expects construction on the 48-unit apartment
building to take about a year.
The building is to house more than 50 veterans in
one-bedroom and two-bedroom units and three-bedroom suites. The apartment
complex is to include the restoration of the historic Whitehall Inn, which is
to house a live-in superintendent and be a social space for residents.
"This is a long time coming," said Mark
Deitcher, director of business development at Mission First. "It's our
first project in Chester County and our first large-scale veterans project, so
we're really excited."
