Pennsylvania’s Wohlsen Construction wins ABC award for Merion Station synagogue renovation

Commercial builder Wohlsen Construction Company received an award from the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) at the association’s recent Annual Awards of Excellence banquet for its renovation of a commonwealth synagogue.

Wohlsen undertook the project with Adath Israel Synagogue located in Merion Station for the renovation of its Mandell Sanctuary. The remodeling included targeted demolition and renovation both for the two-tiered synagogue sanctuary and Frankel Hall in order to provide centralized entry, improved circulation and additional space for a more flexible sanctuary to accommodate modern-day worship styles.

The Award of Merit was presented to Wohlsen in the Restoration/Renovation category. Led by Becker Frondorf and designed by Atkin Olshin Schade Architects of Philadelphia, the 69,000-square-foot project took one month to complete and included a tabas ceiling, installation of a new ark, extensive millwork, carpet and custom glass tile wall installation, acoustic panels and light fixtures, as well as exterior renovations.

Headquartered at 548 Steel Way in Lancaster, and with additional Pennsylvania offices in Media and Harrisburg, Wohlsen Construction Company is a top merit shop construction firm in the mid-Atlantic states, serving Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. A Green Plus Certified company founded in 1890, Wohlsen is currently celebrating its 125th anniversary.
