Harley-Davidson workers approve new labor agreement

Workers at York County's Harley-Davidson plant approved a new collective bargaining agreement with the company Monday that will take effect Feb. 1.

The agreement replaces the current agreement, which was scheduled to expire in February 2017, and extends it to October 2022.

It covers about 970 employees at the Springettsbury Township assembly plant who are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175.

"Our York employees play an important role in ensuring the strength of our manufacturing operations and our ability to be responsive to our customers globally, and we appreciate their many contributions," Michelle Kumbier, Harley-Davidson's senior vice president of motor company product and operations, said in a news release."We believe the new contract is competitive while continuing to provide a stable production environment as we focus on managing the business for long-term success."

The agreement includes wage increases in each year of the contract and maintains the company's flexible manufacturing model, the company said.

Harley trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol HOG.
