$60M housing development planned for Palmer Township

A local homebuilder with several developments in the Lehigh Valley is looking to build 135 single-family homes in Palmer Township.

Mike Tuskes, vice president of Tuskes Homes of Bethlehem Township, said the project, to be called Northwood Farms, would be very similar to its Maple Shade housing community, also in Palmer Township.

The total project buildout is expected to be $55 million to $60 million, with an anticipated construction start in mid-2016, he said.

Home prices will start in the mid-$300,000 range and go to the low $500,000 range.

Ranch homes will start at 1,950 square feet, with two-story homes starting around 2,450 square feet.

The 72-acre site at the corner of Van Buren Road and Northwood Avenue in Palmer Township has a vacant farm house and barn with farmland surrounding it.

Tuskes said he needs township land development approvals, state Department of Transportation driveway permits and approvals from the state Department of Environmental Protection.

The project gained approval Tuesday from the Palmer Township Planning Commission.

The project should be before township supervisors for potential approval on Nov. 24, according to Dave Colver, chairman of the board of supervisors.
