2 years after building collapse, City Council to crack down on permit expeditors

A Philadelphia City Councilwoman is trying to crack down on people who are charging for some services the general public can get for free.

Councilwoman Maria Quinones-Sanchez says some expeditors charge contractors for obtaining permits that can be obtained for free from city government.

"What we wanted to do in not penalize the legitimate expeditors with what we understand to be folks perpetrating to be able to provide building plans, and all the things that expeditors do," she said.

Quinones-Sanchez says the bill mandates documentation of expeditors' work so there is a paper trail if something goes wrong.
