Construction worker dies during strip mall demolition

TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have identified a construction worker who died during the demolition of an Ocean County strip mall.

The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says 52-year-old Raymond Crosby was killed when a part of the building's roof collapsed on top of him.

Police and Bayville firefighters were called to the demolition site of Beachwood Plaza around 2:10 p.m. Thursday after a foreman from Piscataway-based Edgewood Properties reported the roof collapse.

Rescue crews found the Keansburg man among the debris shortly before 3 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation of Crosby's death is being handled by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Demolition began last month on the former Berkeley Township shopping center located on state Route 9.
