COATESVILLE Pennsylvania American Water has started
construction on $9.7 million in upgrades to water and sewer systems serving its
customers in western Chester County, the company announced last week.
Sewer system improvements are set for Coatesville and
Valley Township. The $3.2 million project will replace aging sewer
infrastructure and support expected growth in the western end of the system,
the company said.
The company plans to install a new 30-inch sewer pipe
along and underneath Valley Road.
Water main improvements are scheduled for West Sadsbury
Township and Atglen Borough. The water systems also serve part of Lancaster
County. Projects there are to cost about $6.5 million.
Pennsylvania American Water said it plans to rehabilitate
50,000 feet of water main and clean an existing 111-year-old cast iron water
main.
The company does not expect the projects to impact
traffic because they are not within road right-of-ways, said James Gable, the
company's Coatesville operations superintendent. Customers' water and sewer
services also will not be affected,
