Northampton Community College today is cutting the ribbon
on its new residence halls. The new construction includes two new residence
buildings and a modern kitchen and dining commons.
In the residence halls, students have access to free
Wi-Fi, mentors, computers, tutoring, lounges, complimentary washer and dryers,
an outdoor courtyard and 24-hour security.
The school said many local firms were involved in the $20
million construction and renovation project, including Iron Hill Construction
Management of Bethlehem, Hannabery HVAC of Upper Macungie Township, Lutron
Electronics of Coopersburg, Sodexo of Trexlertown, West Side Electric of
Bethlehem and Livengood Excavators of Walnutport.
The project was managed by J.G. Petrucci Co. Inc. of
Bethlehem and New Jersey.
The project was funded by the nonprofit Northampton
Community College Foundation.
The new residences will provide space for 330 students.
NCC is the only community college in the state to provide on-campus housing for
students. There are more than 600 students living on the campus, including in
the new dorms. The fall semester began Aug. 24.
