Developer wants to add retail to Delaware riverfront project

A shift in plans by the developer of a Delaware riverfront residential property will bring more retail to the evolving Columbus Boulevard.

PMC Property Group now plans to include ground-floor retail space in its 250-unit apartment complex called One Water Street, according to The Inquirer.

Jonathan Stavin of PMC said the adjustment to the $50 million project, located at 230 N. Columbus Blvd., is due to the increasing pedestrian traffic.

The complex's lowest stories, originally designed just for parking, are already under construction, so PMC needs to figure out how to reconfigure the space to allow for retail, Stavin said.

"It's one of the things people have criticized, that there is no retail," he said. "So we are looking at the first floor again."

The riverfront has seen dramatic change in the past few years with the addition of the Spruce Street Harbor Park and the reimagining of the BlueCross RiverRink Winterfest.

Construction of One Water Street is expected to be complete by April 2016.
