U.S. construction jobs were flat in June, despite
residential building shedding 6,100 jobs compared with May.
But don't feel too bad for the industry.
Over the year, construction gained 259,000 jobs and
currently sits at nearly 6.4 million, according to the latest data from the
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Residential building gained 29,600 jobs since May 2014,
while nonresidential added 24,900, according to the BLS.
Heavy and civil engineering construction finished June
with 946,000 jobs, up from 915,600 a year ago.
Meanwhile, specialty trade contractors added 173,900 jobs
over the year. Residential specialty trades added 97,400 jobs, while
nonresidential accounted for 76,500, according to the BLS.
Total U.S. nonfarm jobs grew by 223,000 in June compared
with May.
