An indoor skydiving facility is coming to King of
Prussia, Pa.
Called iFly, the nearly 6,000-square-foot building will
be constructed at 300 Goddard Blvd. and will be near the Imax movie theater.
iFly is a type of emerging entertainment that allows
people to experience something rather than inactively watching it.
It has a special tube – called a "vertical wind
tunnel" – in which people go into and have the sensation of leaping out of
an airplane without going through the risk of actually jumping from a plane.
This vertical wind tunnel “generates a wall-to-wall
cushion of air, on which you safely float,” the company’s website said.
“There’s no parachute, no jumping, and nothing attaching you to planet Earth.
It’s just you and the air, and it’s the most incredible adrenaline rush.”
The experience includes training and the whole things
lasts about an hour.
The facility was approved by the Upper Merion supervisors
in February and should open later this year.
The company is based in Austin, Texas, and was formed as
SkyVenture in 1998. It opened its first indoor skydiving facility in 1999 and
later rebranded itself as iFly. It operates 37 locations.
