Tentative deal reached with Philly.com employees on new contract

Philly.com newsroom employees reached a tentative agreement on a new contract with owner Philadelphia Media Network, but talks are still ongoing with employees of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News.

While guild leadership acknowledged the deal was “the first sign of progress in months,” it also said that until management “deals meaningfully with healthcare and changes its view on seniority, we still have a long way to go and only a few scheduled mediation sessions to get it done.”

The contract expires June 27 and negotiations are scheduled to resume Monday morning.

In a statement, PMN Vice President of Human Resources Keith Black said that as a result of eight hours of negotiations Thursday with a federal mediator, the company and the guild signed the tentative agreement for Philly.com

“Following review and sign-off on the tentative agreement by both sides, the mediator recommended that the parties resume talks on Monday morning, with the intent to stay as long as necessary to reach an agreement on the main unit contract,” Black said. “We look forward to continuing our discussions with the goal of reaching an agreement with Guild representatives.”

The Newspaper Guild of Greater Philadelphia leadership said that Philly.com employees are part of the singular health & welfare fund co-managed by the guild and PMN.
