An Easton company is the lead contractor for a $6.3
million multipurpose athletic stadium to be built for Lehighton Area School
District.
The 5-4 school board vote awarded CMG of Easton Inc. the
general construction contract for $5.2 million, Pagoda Electrical Inc. of
Reading the electrical contract for $582,748 and Master Mechanical of McAdoo
the mechanical contract for $452,548. The stadium will be built on Indian Lane
in Lehighton.
The stadium, to be built next to the administration
building, will have an artificial turf playing-surface and will host Lehighton
High School football games, now played at the field next to the middle school.
Soccer, field hockey and track and field events also will move to the new
stadium.
Also planned are a visitor and home grandstand, press
box, 62-foot by 260-foot fieldhouse, 42-foot by 74-foot restroom/maintenance
building, 119-vehicle paved parking lot and a 100-vehicle grass overflow
parking lot. Lighting systems for the field and overflow lot also will be
installed.
Lehighton Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said it would
take three to four weeks for CMG to start bringing in equipment for the
construction. The football team this fall will continue to play home games by
the middle school and is expected to play in the new stadium in 2016.
“That allowed us more flexibility with this project and
also may have helped us with bids by giving the contractor more time to
finish,” Cleaver said.
