Sands proposes addition of live dealer electronic table game stadium

The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem is pitching a new concept in gambling that combines live dealers with electronic table games.

Casino officials made a presentation to the Pennsylvania Gaming Commission this week in which they proposed the construction of a multimillion dollar Live Dealer Electronic Table Game Stadium in a section of the casino that is a bar area, which they said is underused.

This would be an added gambling area. The casino plans no reduction in slot or table games as a result of the new section, according to the report.

According to the presentation, dealers will deal card games in the same way they do traditional card games, except gamblers will be on computer terminals rather than playing with a hand of cards. Roulette wheel tables will similarly have a computer monitor for betting versus placing chips on a table. Bets are made and wins paid off electronically through the terminal.

Presenters said the gambler will be in full view of the dealer at all times, and the outcome of the game is the same as in traditional table games, except that the betting and payouts are handled through the electronic terminal.

The proposed project calls for 150 betting terminals and four to eight dealer tables. The casino said it expects to hire 20 to 25 dealers to man the system, in addition to technicians to install, maintain and supervise the equipment.

The casino said one of the benefits to customers is there will be lower table-game minimum bets and players can follow the trends on multiple tables.

According to the Sands, Live Dealer ETGs, as they are known in the industry, are popular around the world and are used in Las Vegas and New Jersey.

They attract lower-limit gamblers looking for a quicker game. The casino hopes to attract a new market segment.
