$830,000 loan will help restore Bethlehem's Flat Iron building

The historic Flat Iron building in south Bethlehem has received an $830,000 loan from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development program for the Alternative and Clean Energy program.

The loan will be used to build high-performance commercial interiors in the building, which is owned by Larry Eighmy.

The renovation involves installing an energy-efficient boiler, fifth floor renovations and adding second-floor retail space.

The renovation is expected to create an additional 3,000 square feet of office space in south Bethlehem.

The system will include occupancy sensors, daylight harvesting controls and opaque window shades. It also will have a rooftop garden and green roof to reduce storm-water runoff.

The building is in Bethlehem’s Keystone Innovation Zone.

Loans and grants offered through the Alternative and Clean Energy program are used to promote the use, development and construction of alternative and clean-energy products, infrastructure, energy efficiency and energy conservation in the state.

The program is administered through the state’s Commonwealth Financing Authority.
