Derry Township-based Pennsylvania American Water Co.
today announced it will invest $6.7 million this year to improve 15 storage
tanks across the commonwealth, including its 150,000-gallon tank in West
Hanover Township.
To rehabilitate the tanks, crews strip the original paint
and apply a new coating, which serves as a protective barrier that prevents the
steel from rusting and compromising water quality.
Last year, the company spent about $10 million to
rehabilitate 13 tanks and build four additional structures.
Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of New
Jersey-based American Water Works Co. Inc., owns and maintains
more than 290 storage tanks across Pennsylvania.
The Dauphin County utility
serves about 2.2 million people.
