Proposal to expand school campus will be reviewed
ASTON TOWNSHIP Aston Township has started reviewing plans
for a proposed expansion of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit campus.
The $45 million project would include adding two wings
and renovating the school building and doubling its student capacity from 400
to 800.
DCIU offers technical training, special education,
emotional-support programs, and Head Start preschool to students in Delaware
County school districts.
The township began its formal process of reviewing plans
this month, with the first of several conditional-use hearings.
"We're hoping we can go through this process [and]
meet the requirements of the township," said Lawrence O'Shea, DCIU's
executive director.
Last year, residents voiced concerns about traffic
impacts and plans to move students with behavioral issues to the Aston campus.
The township hired a special attorney to review the proposal and, if needed,
fight it in court.
The hearing process will continue at 7 p.m. Feb. 23 in
the township Municipal Building.
