The Lancaster City Housing Authority has been awarded a
$686,476 grant from the from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to
keep public housing stock in working order.
The annual allotment will be used for projects including
new roofs and plumbing upgrades.
"Everything that keeps housing stock in good
shape," Robert Schellhamer, the authority’s executive director, said
recently.
LCHA has two high-rise buildings: Farnum Street East and
Church Street Towers; two family developments: Susquehanna Court and Franklin
Terrace; and 95 other properties. It provides affordable housing for nearly
1,500 families.
In nearby counties, the allocations were: York's housing
authority, $1,236,558; Harrisburg Housing Authority, $2,607,167; Reading
Housing Authority $2,172,433.
In all, HUD awarded $114.1 million to housing authorities
in Pennsylvania.
