The York County Solid Waste Authority recently awarded
four prime site-improvement contracts worth more than $46 million.
The contracts were
awarded to Quandel Construction Group Inc., general construction, $32.72
million; H.B. McClure Co., HVAC, $6.77 million; Jay R. Reynolds Inc.,
plumbing/fire protection, $1.1 million; and Gettle Inc., electrical, $5.64
million.
The authority will break ground later this year on
facility improvements to its Black Bridge Road campus, including modernization
of the York County Resource Recovery Center, both in Manchester Township.
“Facility site improvements and modernization will
enhance operational performance, extend the life of the RRC, enhance site
safety and increase services to York County residents," authority
Executive Director Dave Vollero said in a news release.
The construction phase of the project is expected to
begin this spring and will include improvements such as expansion of the
tipping floor and waste storage pit; wastewater effluent reuse; new boiler
water treatment system; reconfiguration of site roadways and relocation of
vehicle scales; stormwater management and reuse; relocation of the public
recycling drop-off center; a new education center, maintenance shop/warehouse
and a “convenience center” for public waste disposal.
Construction is expected to take up to three years. The
authority is paying for the $62 million project from its capital reserve fund
and a $10 million bank loan approved by the board in 2014, the release said.
The authority owns 150 acres along Black Bridge Road,
with the current facility taking up 22 acres. The site-improvement construction
activities will be conducted on an additional 27.5 acres within the existing
property.
