Philadelphia Gas Works is measuring the market to
potentially expand its liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Port Richmond.
The city utility on Monday announced it is accepting
nonbinding proposals for the purchase of LNG. The response will help PGW decide
if it wants to expand its capacity to produce LNG, for which there is a growing
market as a transport fuel or for use in areas unserved by natural gas
pipelines. The deadline for responses is Jan. 23.
PGW last year sold the equivalent of 1 billion cubic feet
of natural gas to long-haul trucking companies and to companies extracting
natural gas in the Marcellus Shale region.
