The University of Pennsylvania will go forward with a $77.6 million project called the Ronald O. Perelman Center for Political Science and Economics.

The school said in a statement that its board of trustees signed off on its final design, making way for it to proceed with the project. The center will be at 133 S. 36th St. in University City. It will involve renovating the interior and exterior of the West Philadelphia Title and Trust Co. building, which totals 54,400 square feet, and constructing a new 56,700-square-foot addition. The two structures will be connected.

It was designed by KPMB Architects of Toronto. Hunter Roberts is the contractor.

The new facility will bring together the university's political science and economics departments. Work is expected to begin in December and expected to be completed by January 2018.
