Penn State Hershey breaks ground for data center

This is a rendering of Penn State Hershey's $54 million University Technology Center. Officials held a ceremonial ground breaking Wednesday for the 46,000-square-foot data center. The construction of the center is the next step to enabling Penn State Hershey to utilize 'big data' to enhance patient care through disease modeling and predictors for disease by more efficiently processing and analyzing clinical information, according to a news release from Penn State Hershey. Construction of the data center, which will be located on land near the intersection of Life Lion Drive and Bullfrog Valley Road in Derry Township, will begin following final approval of plans by the Derry Township Board of Supervisors. The data center is expected to open in April 2016.
