The Holiday Inn in Fort Washington, Pa., is laying off 61
people as it prepares to close, according to a WARN notice filed with the
Pennsylvania Dept. of Labor and Industry.
The facility will shut its doors Feb. 27, the WARN notice
said. A front-desk worker at the hotel said it's going to close for nine to 12
months as it's renovated into a Holiday Inn Express.
A spokeswoman at InterContinental Hotels Group, which
owns the Holiday Inn brand, said it could not confirm the closure since it's a
franchise-owned property that's independently owned and operated. The
spokeswoman did not immediately identify the property's owner. A request for
comment from the hotel's General Manager Al Iversen was not returned.
Officially called the Holiday Inn Philadelphia North/Fort
Washington, the hotel sits just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Exit 339. Its
website describes it as "conveniently located between many
attractions" like the King of Prussia Mall, Valley Forge National Historic
Park and Center City Philadelphia.
