UGI Energy Services said Monday it wants to build a
35-mile, $150 million natural gas pipeline to bring the fuel to a new power
plant in central Pennsylvania.
UGI said the Sunbury Pipeline would bring natural gas produced
in the Marcellus and Utica shale regions in Lycoming County to a new power
plant in Snyder County.
The power plant would be built at the site of the
coal-fired Sunbury Generation power plant near Shamokin Dam.
UGI said it expects to submit a formal application to the
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in mid-2015. Construction of the pipeline
is expected to begin in 2016.
