Two more big names in retail are heading to the Franklin
Center in Chambersburg.
Petco has signed a lease for a new store and Dick's
Sporting Goods also plans to open at the shopping center on Lincoln Way East.
A spokesperson for Dick's Sporting Goods said the store
is planning a tentative opening date of August 2015. Additional details were
not immediately available.
Petco has signed a 10-year lease for approximately 13,000
square feet at the shopping center, according to the lease agreement recently
recorded in the Franklin County courthouse.
A Petco spokesperson could not be immediately reached.
The two retailers join another new store coming to
Franklin Center.
In October, a subsidiary of TJX Companies Inc. — the
parent company of TJ Maxx — signed a 10-year lease for 25,000 square feet of
space, according to the lease agreement.
The new stores are welcome news for a shopping center
that has struggled to attract major tenants over the years, despite its
location along the busy Lincoln Way corridor and close proximity to Interstate
81.
New owners took over the center earlier this year.
Weston, Fla.-based Chambersburg Investors LLC bought the 174,824-square-foot
Franklin Center from Horsham, Pa.-based CB Franklin Center LLC for $2.5 million
in May.
Ollie's Bargain Outlet now anchors the center, which
added the PennDOT driver's license center late last year.
Pittsburgh-based Dick's Sporting Goods operated 597
stores in 46 states as of Nov. 1. Its nearest location is in Hagerstown, Md.
San Diego-based Petco has more than 1,300 stores nationwide,
including a store in Hagerstown. Stores carry pet-related products for dogs,
cats, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and small animals, and provide pet
services such as grooming, dog training and vaccination clinics.
