Marcellus natural-gas production to increase in January

The amount of natural gas being produced in the Marcellus Shale region is expected to increase by 213 million cubic feet per day in January.

That’s the word from the U.S. Energy Information Administration in a report released this week looking at all petroleum and natural-gas regions in the United States.

This month, the Marcellus is expected to produce more than 16.099 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. That number is predicted to hit 16.312 million next month, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the amount of oil produced in the Marcellus region, which spans much of the northern and western part of Pennsylvania, as well as eastern Ohio and all of West Virginia, is expected to increase by 1,000 barrels per day between December and January, from 54,000 to 55,000.

New-well gas production per rig in the Marcellus is expected to increase by 40,000 cubic feet per day, from more than 7.9 million in December to just over 8 million in January, according to the report.
