Adams County-based Knouse Foods Inc. received a state
grant and loan totaling more than $5.7 million, according to state Rep. Will
Tallman.
The grant, awarded by the Commonwealth Financing
Authority, will go toward construction of a new wastewater treatment facility,
which will produce electricity and reduce boiler fuel requirements, Tallman
said in a news release.
Knouse Foods is a fruit-grower owned agricultural
cooperative that produces a variety of apple, peach and cherry products.
With 1,527 employees, it is the largest employer in Adams
County, the release states.
Funding for the grant comes from state fees imposed on
companies that extract natural gas. The Financing Authority awards 60 percent
of these fees to counties and municipalities affected by drilling.
