Alexander Building Construction Co. has begun expanding
York Hospital's emergency department.
The project, announced last November,
will include 4,000 square feet of new construction as well as 47,500 square
feet of renovations. Its cost is estimated at $50 million, and completion is
expected in September 2016.
“We strive to continuously improve the quality of our
health care services, and we fully expect the expanded emergency department to
help us achieve that goal,” Robert Heidelbaugh said in a news release; he is
senior project manager for WellSpan Health, which owns York Hospital. “Alexander has proven
successful in completing previous projects for York Hospital,
which gives us the utmost confidence in their ability to succeed on this
project as well.”
Alexander said it will split the project into four phases
"to ensure that the emergency department is able to maintain
operations" throughout the proceedings. Notable features will include the
following:
• New elevated helipad
• Expansion of the Emergency Transitional Care Unit
• Expanded ambulance parking
• New rapid treatment area
• New behavioral health unit
• Reconfigured roadways to allow for better traffic flow
Based in Harrisburg, Alexander is part of The Butz Family of Companies.
