SILVER SPRING TOWNSHIP — The
Silver Spring Township Planning Commission on Thursday night approved land
development plans for the continued expansion of an automobile dealer in the
area of Carlisle Pike, Rich Valley Road, and Commerce Drive.
Bob Lewis, chief operating
officer for Faulkner Automobile Dealership, said plans are to begin a new
Cadillac dealership, and once completed, to renovate the former Sutliff
Cadillac dealership, located on the other side of Commerce Drive, into a Dodge
Ram facility.
And in late 2015 or early
2016, a 14.51-acre tract of land that was approved in February by
the township for the development of four dealership structures, will
include the high-end, Italian-made Maserati and Alfa Romeo models, as well as
the Subaru and Volkswagen dealerships already constructed there.
John Murphy, with Alpha
Consulting Engineers, said on Thursday that the plans for the new Cadillac
dealership call for a redevelopment to the western portion of the Cumberland
Valley Motors site.
He also said that with all of
the changes, Faulkner is also looking to narrow down the current number of
access points along Carlisle Pike near the locations so as to clean up and
correct traffic flow issues.
Dealerships require dealers
to stay within "very stringent site and architectural" requirements,
Murphy added.
Faulkner's goal, he said, is
to transform the area into a "first-class, high-end operation."
