LOWER MERION Bryn Mawr Hospital is in the middle of a
months-long project to demolish two buildings on its campus and fill in the
sites, at least temporarily, with gravel, paving and grass, a hospital official
said.
Visitors to the campus can expect the work to go on through
October, said Brenda DeFeo, the hospital's vice president of administration.
The buildings coming down are the Clothier Building on South
Bryn Mawr Avenue and the Medical Office Building South on County Line Road.
The Clothier Building, once a residence for nurses, and the
office building were built in the 1950s, DeFeo said, "and were no longer
suitable for meeting the health-care needs of the community."
Hospital operations won't change due to the work, though
traffic around the parking garage will. Signs will point out detours.
Officials have not announced what they will do with the
sites.
"The hospital is working to finalize the campus master
plan this fall, and this plan will determine how these sites will be
used," spokeswoman Bridget Therriault said.
