GMCS Editorial: Congratulations to Angelo Perryman and the entire
Perryman Building and Construction Services organization for bringing this
valuable community resource off the paper and out of the ground.
Ground was broken on a new $42.5 million community health
and literacy center in South Philadelphia that is seeking to become a national
model of a public-private partnership providing healthcare, literacy and
recreational services.
The three-story, 96,000-square-foot building is being
developed in a joint venture between Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and
the city. The project is located on a block bounded by South Broad Street,
South 15 th Street, Morris Avenue and Castle Avenue.
The city is leasing the property to CHOP at a nominal fee
and invested $2.2 million to help construct the facility. CHOP is funding the
remainder of the project cost.
CHOP’s South Philadelphia care network and primary care
will move into the building from St. Agnes as well as a Philadelphia health
center. The first floor will be library and recreation center. An outdoor
playground is also part of the plans.
The development is scheduled to be completed late next
year. Perryman Building and Construction Services is the contractor.
