Commercial real estate agency to auction as many as 15 properties; charities to benefit

A commercial real estate broker and a number of Monroe County area property owners are partnering for the third year of an innovative fundraiser to benefit a number of charities in the region.

“This is something we can do for them,” said Brian Coyne, director of marketing for Michael Baxter & Associates Commercial Real Estate in Stroudsburg.

“This” is the High Five Charity Auction, where commercial real estate properties will be auctioned off with a portion of the proceeds going to charities, including Fitzmaurice Community Services, Gregory W. Moyer Defibrillator Fund, Mady’s Angels, Monroe County Meals on Wheels and Pocono Health System Visiting Nurse & Hospice Care.

High Five Charity Auction 3 will be a live auction Oct. 3 at Desaki Restaurant on Route 611 in Swiftwater. Participants can bid on commercial real estate as well as entertainment and other products or services.

Coyne said his company expects to have between 10 and 15 properties up for auction. Property owners agree to donate $5,000 or a percentage of the property’s sale price to the charities. The seller and buyer split the decision on how the money will be divided among the participating charities.

He said each of the charities is expected to take in about $7,000 in new donations from the property sales, plus money earned through ticket sales and raffles at the event.

But he said the property owners benefit, too.

“They’re definitely going to get a lot more looks than they would have otherwise,” Coyne said. “It’s a win, win, win for everyone involved.”
