Radnor hires a planning firm to review development proposals
RADNOR Radnor Township has hired a planning firm to review
development proposals, including an expansion of Villanova University and
BioMed Realty's development plans on King of Prussia Road.
The township's Board of Commissioners voted this week to
hire Lancaster-based RETTEW Associates. The firm was hired in part because
Kevin Kochanski, Radnor's director of community development, is on leave for
military service, Commissioner Elaine Schaefer said.
With large-scale development plans in need of review, she
said, the township needed extra help. The firm charges different hourly rates,
ranging from $66 to $150, depending on which of its employees does the work,
according to its proposal.
Earlier this year, some residents opposed to development
plans called for the township to hire an outside planning firm. But
Commissioner Richard Booker, who has spoken out againt Villanova's and BioMed's
development plans, said he now worried whether Radnor would be "spending
taxpayer money to assist an independent, private developer."
Schaefer said the consultant team would "hit the ground
running." The township has a hearing Monday night on Villanova's plans to
build dormitories, a performing arts center, parking garage, and bookstore.
