HILLTOWN Shopping center to get upgrades, new store

HILLTOWN With a new anchor tenant and $6 million in upgrades, a local developer hopes to revitalize the Hilltown Crossings shopping center on Route 309 at Orvilla Road.
When it opened in 1995, the 41-acre shopping center was anchored by a Giant supermarket and a Walmart store. In 2012, the Walmart nearly doubled in size, adding a supermarket and pharmacy. The center also has several restaurants, a Dollar Tree store, and other small retailers.

Giant closed in 2006, and about 30 percent of the shopping center's square footage is vacant.

That will decrease significantly this year when a Burlington Coat Factory opens in the 62,000-square-foot space formerly used by Giant.

The developer, Wolfson Group of Plymouth Meeting, said it hopes to sign new tenants for eight smaller vacant storefronts by the spring.
