Bell & Evans, the third-largest employer in Lebanon
County, broke ground today on a $44 million expansion project that will put a
new 158,000-square-foot poultry processing and packaging plant on adjacent
property it purchased.
The state provided $2.46 million in grants and tax credits
to help fund the Bethel Township project.
The company employs about 1,145 full-time workers, and the
expansion would add 380 jobs, according to the state, with room for future
expansion.
Last week, the company purchased the site of the former
Keystone Protein rendering plant on Route 22, said President and Chairman Scott
Sechler. It will build another expansion that will employ between 1,200-2,000
people.
