Bucks County Community College is celebrating its 50th
anniversary this year by breaking ground on what will become a brand new, $17
million state-of-the art science center.
“It’s a very exciting year,” said Marta Kaufmann, BCCC’s
executive director of marketing, communications and public relations.
College officials on Thursday broke ground at its main
Newtown campus, on the 34,700-square-foot science center, which is scheduled to
be complete in two years, and will feature a curved two-story glass wall at the
entrance, leading into a two-story student commons area with open lounge spaces
and rooms for collaboration and study.
The building will also have 11 science labs and a computer
lab.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our students,” Kaufmann
said. “Science is a very, very important area of our region and our country,
and we are very excited to provide a facility with the latest technology.”
Founded in 1964, Bucks County Community College has two
other campuses, in Bristol and Perkasie.
Kaufmann said she is not aware of who has been awarded the
construction contract, or when the work will begin.
