In advance of Wednesday's annual meeting of Universal Health
Services Inc., members of the Service Workers International Union were set to
protest outside four of UHS's local behavioral health facilities on Tuesday,
including Friends Hospital in Philadelphia.
UHS, in King of Prussia, runs hospitals and behavioral
health facilities around the nation, including eight in this region. SEIU
represents employees at UHS facilities in Nevada and Massachusetts.
Union members who are also shareholders are presenting
letters to UHS's board saying that UHS hasn't done enough to safeguard patient
safety. The letters urge UHS to set up oversight committees at each facility to
improve patient care.
UHS had no comment on Tuesday afternoon.
