The U.S. Transportation Department has awarded a $10.39
million grant to Philadelphia International Airport for aircraft taxiway work
related to lengthening a main east-west runway, said U.S. Sen. Robert P. Casey
Jr. (D., Pa.).
A multi-billion-dollar airport expansion calls for
lengthening two runways, and airfield improvements including new taxiway and
aircraft holding bays, and an apron to better queue aircraft for departure.
"This grant will allow the airport to improve its
facilities and make critical updates to help ensure that it continues to be a
safe and reliable hub of transportation for eastern Pennsylvania," Casey
said.
