Nicholas and Athena Karabots Improve Access to Healthcare with $7.5 Million Gift to Einstein Healthcare Network

PHILADELPHIA — Einstein Healthcare Network, a leading regional healthcare provider, announces the receipt of a $7.5 million gift from The Karabots Foundation, a not for profit corporation formed by Nicholas and Athena Karabots with one of its missions being to provide readily accessible medical facilities and resultant care for those living in underserved communities. In grateful appreciation of the extraordinary generosity displayed by Mr. and Mrs. Karabots, Einstein will name the renovated medical office building located at 1330 Powell Street in Norristown, Pennsylvania in their honor as The Nicholas and Athena Karabots Medical Building. In addition, the diagnostic center at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery will be renamed The Nicholas and Athena Karabots Diagnostic Center.

Nicholas and Athena Karabots believe in assisting specific institutions whose programs serve both the young and elderly in disadvantaged communities within both the greater Philadelphia community and throughout the United States. Their impassioned determination to use their resources to the benefit of so many is evident in this gift presented to Einstein Healthcare Network – which will ultimately benefit residents in Norristown and others in the surrounding communities.

Mr. Karabots stated: “The Karabots Foundation has endeavored over the years to bring better health and youth related programs to serve not only Norristown but also the surrounding communities with some of its earlier achievements reflected in its support of Montgomery Hospital and that facility’s expansion of services via The Karabots Foundation’s programs. We are extremely pleased that Einstein Montgomery has committed to retain and expand the medical services available at the Medical Office Building on Powell Street. Additionally, we recognize that Einstein Montgomery has invested heavily to bring a much broader level of medical capabilities and resultant care for the residents of Norristown and the surrounding communities at its newly established Einstein Medical Center Montgomery on Germantown Pike in East Norriton. Our recent support is based on the longer term commitment that Einstein Montgomery has made by upgrading the Powell Street facility and expanding those medical services while bringing to the community the additional capabilities for which Einstein Healthcare Network is well noted.”

“We commend Nicholas and Athena Karabots for their longstanding commitment to the communities we serve,” said Barry R. Freedman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Einstein Healthcare Network. “Einstein is proud to be a part of their legacy as we work to expand our reach and provide quality access to healthcare throughout the region.”

Upon completion of its renovation, The Nicholas and Athena Karabots Medical Building will continue to serve as a valued resource to residents in Norristown, providing outpatient healthcare services for the entire family, from newborns to senior citizens. The Nicholas and Athena Karabots Diagnostic Center at Einstein Montgomery offers the full range of advanced diagnostic testing services that includes cardiology, neurodiagnostics, radiology, laboratory and respiratory testing. This generous gift will also enable Einstein Montgomery to continue to deliver the latest technology in cancer treatment with the Varian linear accelerator located in The Karabots Radiation Oncology Center in the Minerva D. Braemer Medical Arts Building on the Einstein Medical Center Montgomery campus.

“The Karabots have long been supporters of Montgomery Hospital Medical Center and we’re grateful that they have continued their support here at Einstein Medical Center Montgomery,” said Beth Duffy, Chief Operating Officer at Einstein Montgomery. “Their commitment to providing access to quality care to all mirrors our mission and this gift will directly impact our ability to further our reach in the community.”
