The two data center facilities totaling almost 430,000 sf
for owner Digital Realty Trust will use the company's TK-Flex planning module, allowing
for 24 pods.
GMCS Editorial: Another sign that modularization is continually being
adopted and embraced by the industry. Contractors
and trades must adopt, adjust and adapt to these changes in materials and
methods or risk losing the opportunities that exist within the marketplace.
Highland Associates is providing architectural/engineering
design services for two data center facilities totaling almost 430,000 sf in
Totowa, N.J., for owner Digital Realty Trust.
The design uses the owner’s TK-Flex planning module,
allowing for 24 pods. Rooftop units will provide cooling for IT equipment loads
as well as exterior heat loads and heat gain from people, lighting, and power
distribution units in the space.
Air-side economizers will be used to increase system
efficiency and reduce energy usage. Sight lines, noise, and security have been
designed with sensitivity to surrounding residential areas. A new 69 kV
substation will feed the two new buildings.
Also on the Building Team: The Ardent Company (owner’s
project manager/representative), RRC Engineering (SE), VHB (CE), DPR
Construction (preconstruction services), Turner Construction (preconstruction
services), and Guidepost Solutions (site and building security).
