Lux condo construction winding down in Harrisburg

Dan Deitchman's Lux condominium building at Third and State streets in Harrisburg is wrapping and the first residents are expected to move in by June.

Deitchman’s company, Lower Allen Township-based Brickbox Enterprises Ltd.,  has been redeveloping the former AFL-CIO building, across from the state Capitol, since early last year.

The eight-story building will have a 4,200-square-foot street-level restaurant, which remains in negotiations, while the upper seven floors each have six condos.

The one-bedroom units are priced from $89,900 to $224,900, with the average being about $152,000, said Pete Weigher, president of TeamPete Realty Services Inc., the firm marketing the building.

To date, 22 of the 42 units are reserved or under contract, Weigher said: “It’s the lifestyle, ease of living, the views and the efficiency of the layout.”

They feature granite countertops and stainless steel appliances, quality cabinetry, ceramic baths, custom windows, individual heating and air-conditioning units, and washers and dryers.

The eighth-floor condos facing Third and State streets have floor-to-ceiling windows, while second-floor units have 12- and 14-foot ceilings. There are six floorplans, which are repeated on each floor.

Amenities include a conference center, community room, fitness center, bike rack, storage area, rooftop patio and secure entry. There also will be laundry and dry-cleaning services, optional house cleaning service, 24-hour emergency maintenance, high-speed Internet, cable and covered off-street parking. The complex is pet friendly.

The Lux was completed in 1909 as a Masonic temple. The structure was built using white marble, granite, white glazed terracotta and pressed Roman gray brick. It was used by the Masons until the early 1950s. It was then converted to an office building, known as Barto, and used in that capacity until 2009. Etched in the cornerstone are the words “SIT LUX,” which means “let there be light.”

A grand-opening event is slated for May 21.
