WYNNEWOOD The Perelman Jewish Day School Faculty Association
has filed unfair labor practices charges against the school's board of
directors for withdrawing recognition of the union.
The case, filed Monday with the National Labor Relations
Board in Philadelphia, alleges that the board offered teachers one-year
contracts for next year that would allow them to be fired without notice or
cause. It also alleges that the board told teachers they would be without jobs
in September if they did not accept the board's conditions.
Perelman serves children in kindergarten through fifth grade
at campuses in Wynnewood and Melrose Park. Tracey Specter, the president of the
board of directors, did not respond to an e-mail for comment.
The school's collective bargaining agreement with the
60-member union expires on Aug. 31. The board told teachers it will honor the
contract until then.
