The Pennsylvania state transportation funds are leading to
mass transit improvements in Delaware County.
SEPTA will soon begin upgrading to the Darby Creek, Ridley
Creek and Cobbs Creek viaducts, that run along its Media/Elwyn Regional Rail
Line. The work includes replacing bridge timbers, making structural repairs and
painting. Construction on the Cobbs Creek and Darby Creek projects is scheduled
to begin this fall, with Ridley Creek following next year.
SEPTA claims that without the state funding, it would have
been forced to delay repairs to deteriorating structures, meaning it
"would have eventually forced the suspension of service on the Media/Elwyn
Line."
“With Act 89 in place, we can keep SEPTA and Delaware County
moving,” said State Rep. Margo Davidson in a statement. “These new resources
will ensure residents have safe and reliable transportation, and the work to
make these critical repairs will create and support jobs for local residents.”
