After opening just two years ago this May, construction is
underway to expand the Sands Casino Event Center in Bethlehem by 145 seats.
For the expansion project, the management company of the
popular concert venue hired Serfass Construction of North Whitehall Township to
begin construction April 1, with a target completion date of April 30.
"It's probably one of the fastest paced projects we've
been a part of," Matthias Fenstermacher, vice president of Serfass, said
this morning. Serfass also built the event center.
"These high-risk projects that are under tight
deadlines showcase our ability to meet deadlines," Fenstermacher said.
The company is building the mezzanine level for the
additional seats. The seating arrangement will be similar to the seats in the
VIP section, Fenstermacher said.
According to Matt Salkowski, general manager, the project
will add 145 seats total, with some seats 15 feet from the edge of the stage.
Part of the balcony under construction will connect to the current suites.
The venue has had a lot of profitable events and a lot of
demand for extra seating, Salkowski said.
More than 10 local trades will work on the construction of
the expansion, and as many as 30 workers will be onsite daily during the 30 day
build.
