Construction on a new home for Whitehall Door Inc. began this morning.

Jerdon Construction of Upper Macungie Township is handling the 12,000-square-foot design/build project.

Near Weis Markets on Route 145 in Whitehall Township, the building will be the new home to Whitehall Door's corporate offices, showroom and warehouse operations at 3021 S. Church St., said Ron Jerdon, president of Jerdon Construction.

"After a harsh winter, it is exciting to have the project underway," Jerdon said. "With a solid pipeline, 2014 is shaping up to be a very strong year for us."

The project includes two-story office space, Jerdon said. Construction will be complete in September.

Whitehall Door will consolidate its office at 5184 McKinley Ave. in Whitehall but keep that site open for now as the company moves to the new site, said Dave Huber, owner of Whitehall Door.

"It seems like the timing is good; we've been looking to do this for years and the economy wasn't conducive to it," said Huber, who declined to disclose the construction cost.

The new showroom will be much bigger and offer more room to display the company's commercial overhead doors and residential garage doors and openers, he said.
