SEPTA officials are slated to detail the agency's
contingency plans in case workers go on strike after their contract expires at
midnight.
The transit agency is negotiating with the Transport Workers
Union Local 234. The contract that expires at 12:01 a.m. Saturday covers about
4,700 SEPTA employees in the city.
SEPTA is planning a morning news conference to outline
alternate service plans in case City Transit Division workers go on strike.
Contract talks are continuing to take place, SEPTA said in a
statement this morning, and the agency is operating normally. The briefing is
scheduled "to assure the public that we are prepared for all
contingencies," the statement said.
Separate contract with other union divisions expire next
month.
The union last went on strike in 2009.
